Banana bread with brown sugar is a moist and flavorful baked treat made from ripe bananas, butter, and brown sugar. This simple substitution can add a rich flavor to your banana bread, while also helping to keep it moist.

One of my foodie friends on social media suggested that I try using only brown sugar in my sweet bread recipe. Intrigued by the idea, I decided to give it a try and paired it with a warm and inviting spice like cinnamon. The result was a delicious twist on the classic recipe that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Banana bread has been a beloved family treat for many years. However, I like to mix things up and try different variations instead of sticking to the classic recipe. For example, I enjoy baking these sweet breads with a unique twist like my Banana Bread made with Fig Walnut Jam or Banana Oatmeal Muffins.

In this blog, you will learn how to make banana bread infused with the delicious sweetness of brown sugar and the natural essence of banana. This recipe is effortless to prepare, making it the perfect treat for any occasion.

What is the difference between using Brown Sugar vs. White Granulated Sugar?

Brown sugar contains molasses, which gives it a richer and more caramel-like taste than white sugar. It also has a higher moisture content than white sugar, which can help ensure your banana bread stays moist and soft. The brown sugar also lends a rich, caramel-like sweetness to the bread, while the ripe bananas infuse it with natural banana flavor. This beloved classic is easy to make and is typically served sliced, making it perfect for breakfast, snacking, or dessert.

The result is a delicious, comforting sweet bread that’s moist and delicious.

How to make Brown Sugar Banana Bread

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×5 loaf Pan with cooking spray, butter or parchment paper.
  • Place the ripened bananas in a mixing bowl and begin to smash the bananas using a fork, leaving a little bit of banana chucks for added texture. (If you are using frozen bananas, allow to sit out of the freezer for 7-10 before trying to smash them)
  • Combined Brown Sugar and Butter by adding the room temperature butter to the mashed bananas and stir until well combined. Then, add 1 1/4 cup of brown sugar to the banana-butter mixture and mix until the sugar is fully incorporated.
  • Beat the egg then add in the vanilla extract and 1/4 cup of milk to the mixture.
  • Mixing the Dry Ingredients – In another bowl, whisk together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and the optional spice (1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon).
  • Combining the Wet and Dry Ingredients – Slowly add in the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients then mix until all the ingredients are just combined. Be very careful in not over mixing the batter. It will be perfectly fine if there some lumps in the mixture.
  • Pour the banana bread batter into the prepared loaf pan and place in the preheated oven.
  • Bake for 60 minutes, or until a toothpick or cake tester inserted into the center comes out clean. Baking time may vary slightly, so start checking at around 50-55 minutes.
  • Once done, remove from the oven and allow to cool before serving. Enjoy!

Tips for Making Moist and Delicious Banana Bread

Here’s a delicious banana bread recipe and helpful tips for all banana lovers. It’s a classic recipe perfect for using ripe bananas and adding moisture to your banana bread.

Tip 1 – I found that using frozen bananas releases a tremendous amount of moisture into the banana bread when baking.

Tip 2 – Not to over mix the batter. I have made this mistake during my early banana making journey. Over mixing will cause for the loaf to become dense and therefore the banana bread is stiff.

Tip 3 – To determine the baking time for your bread, consider the loaf pan size and type. To check if it’s done, insert a skewer into the center. If it comes out clean, it’s ready.
