Seasoning
What gives this Oven Fried Chicken its delicious taste? It’s all in the seasoning! So for this recipe here’s what I used and How I used it.
Buttermilk – Yes, my friend is what will make the chicken extra moist and tender on the inside. You can allow the chicken to marinate in the buttermilk overnight or 2-12 hours before cooking.
Seasonings – In a small bowl combine the onion powder, garlic powder, creole seasoning (optional) paprika, Thyme and Salt & Pepper. using a fork, give the seasoning a quick mix.
Chicken
If you’re buying a whole chicken, start by cutting the chicken into parts. You can also feel free to buy any parts of the chicken separately that you prefer. Which I have done for this recipe. I used four drumsticks and one Chicken Breast. Rinse the chicken with water and vinegar or lemon juice. Pat Dry. Season chicken on both sides then in a large bowl add chicken along with the buttermilk, hot sauce, and some seasoning. Cover and place in the fridge to marinate for 2- 12 hours.
Breading
When it comes to breading combine both the all-purpose flour and bread crumbs in a dish or Ziplock bag. Add remaining seasonings to the flour and bread crumb mix. Dip each chicken piece into the flour mixture. Make sure that each piece is fully covered.
Baking
Preheat Oven at 400 F. Lay each fully coated chicken onto a lined baking sheet and place in the preheated oven and bake for 35-45 minutes or bake until the chicken has cooked through. *Note: Larger pieces will take longer than smaller pieces.
