S’mores Hot Cocoa is a warm hug in a mug. This delicious hot drink recipe includes toasted marshmallows, rich creamy melted chocolate, and graham crackers. It’s the perfect dessert drink for those chilly days.

Whoever thought of putting roasted marshmallows along with a piece of chocolate between two graham crackers is a genius! But first, allow me to be the first to admit that I’ve never been camping or have been interested in camping. And if I told you that I’ve never even sat by an open fire pit to roast a marshmallow, you probably would think that I have been living under a rock right? LOL

I would see people making s’mores on television and always thought it was cool to see how others enjoyed s’mores. Now if I ever by a change of heart to go camping, it would mainly be for the experience of making s’mores by the fire. But for now, I’m so glad this recipe brings the essence of s’mores indoors, offering a delicious cozy twist.

What makes S’mores Hot Cocoa Special?

Making s’mores may bring back fun and unforgettable childhood memories for some of you. However, bringing the essence of s’mores into a hot beverage is everything and you will get to enjoy the best of both worlds here. I mean, who doesn’t love a good hot chocolate?

The base of this drink is creamy and rich with melted milk chocolate that warms your hands and heart. We can’t forget the toasted marshmallows to add on top of the hot chocolate which compliments the hot chocolate perfectly. It’s truly a match made in heaven. And if you like a little extra razzle dazzle around the rim of your mug, the added melted chocolate and crushed graham crackers add a special touch.

Ingredients You’ll Need

Hot Chocolate

  • Half n Half
  • Water
  • Cocoa Powder
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Salt
  • Chocolate Bar

Trimming & Toppings

  • Marshmallows
  • Graham Crackers
  • Chocolate Chips
  • Coconut Flakes (optional)

How to Make S’Mores Hot Cocoa

Step 1. Prepare Mug Rim for Trimming

  • To crush the graham crackers you can place 1 sheet of crackers and place it in the food processor giving it 1 to 2 short pulses. Another option is placing the graham cracker into a ziplock bag and using a rolling pin to roll over the ziplock bag until you reach the desired consistency.
  • Melt the chocolate in the microwave for 20 seconds. Stir repeat if needed until the chocolate becomes smooth.
  • Dip the mug’s rim into the melted chocolate and then into the crushed graham crackers and set the mug aside.

Step 2. Hot Cocoa Base

  • Heat half-n-half over medium heat in a 3 quart pot. Add cocoa powder, and a pinch of salt.
  • Stir frequently. Once hot, add the chocolate pieces or chocolate chips and whisk until melted and smooth. Continue to heat until small bubbles start to form.
  • Remove from heat and add in the vanilla extract. Stir until the Hot Cocoa is nice and smooth.
  • Pour the hot chocolate into the prepared mug. Top with toasted marshmallows and a sprinkle of crushed graham crackers.

Recipe Notes

  • For this recipe I used half n half instead of me adding heavy whipping cream. Feel free to use whole milk.
  • For the chocolate you can use chocolate chips or 1/2 chocolate bar chopped.
